چکیده

MUL TIVISCERAL transplantation was first applied clinically for the treatment of short bowel syndrome complicated by liver failure from long-term hyperalimentation. The first experimental work in dogs was reported by Starzl et al in the early 1960s" Recently, several experiments using large animals showed that multivisceral transplantation is a technically complicated procedure with high mortality.2-4 In this report, we describe the operative . ... technique, postoperative graft function, and immunological aspects of multivisceral transplantation in pigs.

Long survival in rats after multivisceral versus isolated small-bowel allotransplantation under FK 506.

Abdominal multivisceral allotransplantation (MVTX) from Brown Norway donor rats to Lewis recipient rats was performed under a 14-day course of low (0.32 mg/kg) or high-dose (0.64 mg/kg) intramuscular FK 506 to which weekly further injections were added in some of the high-dose animals. With all three regimens, long survival was frequently achieved with good intestinal adsorption and weight gain...

Multivisceral transplantation in pigs: a model for research and training.

OBJECTIVE To present a model for research and training in multivisceral transplantation in pigs. METHODS Eight Large White pigs (four donors and four recipients) were operated. The multivisceral transplant with stomach, duodenum, pancreas, liver and intestine was performed similarly to transplantation in humans with a few differences, described below. Anastomoses were performed as follows: en...

Recent advances in hepatic transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh.

FK506 undoubtedly improved the survival advantage of hepatic allotransplantation. Hepatic-intestinal and multivisceral transplantation has also become a feasible therapy for patients with combined intestinal and liver failure. With better understanding of the immunologic and metabolic aspects of allo- and xenotransplantation, further clinical attempts to transplant animal organs to humans may b...

Porcine Circoviruses and Xenotransplantation

Allotransplantation and xenotransplantation may be associated with the transmission of pathogens from the donor to the recipient. Whereas in the case of allotransplantation the transmitted microorganisms and their pathogenic effect are well characterized, the possible influence of porcine microorganisms on humans is mostly unknown. Porcine circoviruses (PCVs) are common in pig breeds and they b...
